Join us for an online conversation with interdisciplinary artist Marcia Pitch. Speaking to the invisibility that older women often face, the artist will share her insights into her long-standing art career and how she has persisted in making provocative art throughout the past four decades.
Marcia Pitch’s artistic practice has encompassed a diverse range of mediums including installation, sculpture, assemblage, and collage. This odyssey experienced a brief pause in the mid-80s when parenthood took center stage. However, when she returned to her artistic practice, it had evolved, pivoting from a focus on the broader world to a more intimate exploration of domestic politics. The theme of aging women holds a prominent place in her recent body of work. This choice is deeply personal and conveys a significant political statement.
This was a fully interactive online session recorded on November 29, 2023 with the Richmond Art Gallery.
Hosted by RAG Education & Public Programs Coordinator, Kathy Tycholis.
Produced by the Richmond Art Gallery Association as part of the Artist Salon series.
About the Presenter:
Marcia Pitch is a visual artist living and working in Vancouver. Having received her B.F.A. from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, she attended the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California and the University of British Columbia, obtaining her teacher’s training in Art Education. She has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows across Canada. A recipient of several Canada Council Visual Arts Grants, her work is in many private and public collections in North America and represented in numerous catalogues.
