IN THE GALLERY

September 13 – November 9, 2025
Manuel Axel Strain: xʷən̓iwən ce:p kʷθəθ nəw̓eyəł ((((Remember your teachings))))

Artist Manuel Axel Strain embraces and exalts the traditional Coast Salish cedar longhouse as a way of confronting the colonial context surrounding them. This major multi-media exhibition—including paintings, sculptures, family photographs, video, and installation—promises to transform the Gallery with a dynamic mix of new and recent artworks rendered in Strain’s boldly unique style.

Art Workshop: Architectural Explorations
Examining the ways in which the built environment both shapes and reflects the values of various cultures, students will design a structure expressing their own principles and ideas.

November 29 – December 31, 2025
Group Show: ArtRich 2025

The Richmond Arts Coalition, in partnership with Richmond Art Gallery, is pleased to present ArtRich 2025. The sixth edition of this vibrant juried exhibition features fifty emerging and established artists from Richmond and nearby communities working with an eclectic array of styles and subject matter.

Art Workshop: Ready, Set, Paint!
Focusing on the elements of colour and composition, students will create a painting inspired by the diverse themes and techniques of the works in the ArtRich exhibition.

January 24-March 29, 2026
Group Exhibition: The Chromophiliacs

Exploding with color, the exhibition The Chromophiliacs will showcase a dynamic roster of artists inspired by craft and design traditions, including Diyan Achjadi, Yaimel López Zaldívar, Malina Sintnicolaas, and Charlene Vickers, among others.

Art Workshop: Colourful Creations
Inspired by Charlene Vickers’ textile ovoids, students will explore colour theory and shape in colourful mixed media compositions.

April 18-June 28, 2026

Group Exhibition: I digress

Featuring photography, video, and print media, I digress focusses on artists who work in an autobiographical, diaristic, or confessional vein. Memoirs, journals, letters, family albums, and archives offer compelling sources of inspiration for artists Jo-Anne Balcaen, Anne Kozumi, and others

Side Core: Concrete Planet

Concrete Planet aspires to discover how people and urban environments interact, all from the POV of a skateboard. Side Core filmed sites normally inaccessible to the general public, such as a giant underground retention basin, a disused water treatment facility, and an abandoned subway station.

Art Workshop: Visual Storytelling
Examining how images and text can communicate emotion and meaning, students will create an artwork exploring a personal narrative.
