Wool Logic showcases hand-crafted rugs that blend cultural tradition with scientific inquiry and emotional depth. Through geometric patterns and tactile surfaces, artist Jamie Girouard explores ideas ranging from the physics of light to the complexities of human and artificial intelligence. Each piece, made using reclaimed materials—such as shrunken sweaters, repurposed furniture, and coffee sacks—invites the viewer to engage not only visually, but also through touch.
Girouard’s process is laborious, involving everything from building frames and stretching burlap to felting and dyeing wool strips. This act of making becomes a space for introspection, where each pulled loop marks a moment of reflection, drawing from the artist’s Acadian cultural heritage and the awe-inspiring landscape of the West Coast.
The resulting works are contemplative objects, showcasing the quiet wisdom of the handmade. Weaving together materiality, inquiry, and care, Wool Logic invites us to reflect on our collective place in a rapidly-evolving world.
