Artist Peisen Ding, one of the 2023 Culture Days Ambassadors, shares his experiences as a newcomer to Canada, and how he found work and community in the arts. He will share some of his past projects, and the type of work he currently does to build artist connections and opportunities in his new home in Vancouver.

This was a fully interactive online session recorded on September 27, 2023 with the Richmond Art Gallery.

Hosted by RAG Education & Public Programs Coordinator, Kathy Tycholis.
Produced by the Richmond Art Gallery Association as part of the Artist Salon series.

    About the Presenter:
Peisen Ding is a visual artist and an art educator living on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Peisen’s art practice often involves the exploration of urban relationships, for example, relations with other individuals and built environments in the city of Vancouver through photography, painting, and/or whatever medium comes to the process organically. As a queer Chinese immigrant, it is also important for him to discover what life brings when living with different identities and cultures, and how art can show care, love, and courage to others who have similar backgrounds. His research in education mainly focuses on what art can bring to the learning of ourselves and the world around us.

Past live sessions from 2020 onwards are recorded and may be viewed online at the RAG@Home Artist Salon videos.

Program is supported by the City of Richmond Arts and Culture grant, and is one of the many programs happening during Culture Days 2023.
