Fruitful Loop brings together a selected body of paintings by artist Kia Eriksson that explore attention, renewal, and the everyday practice of being present. Through diverse portraits, abstract geometric forms, and an abundance of strawberries—a vibrant symbol for grounding in the present moment—Eriksson invites viewers to pause, notice, feel, and perhaps even find joy in something familiar, seen anew.
Drawing from traditions of portraiture from the Byzantine to the Renaissance, Eriksson’s young subjects appear suspended in time. They are framed by floating balloons and flags, sprouting seeds and blooming flowers—visual elements that, like strawberries in Eriksson’ work, gently point to the practice of paying attention. Resembling a sculpture carved in marble, a ballet dancer is captured mid-pose, as if surprised by a field of red berries, inviting viewers to imagine the composition awakening into colour and movement. Eriksson also translates the many natural motifs found in the portraits—seeds, fruits, and flower petals—into layered patterns, developing a visual language of rhythmic repetition. Together, these intimate portraits and abstract geometric forms trace an embodied journey from mindlessness to mindfulness.
