The Richmond Art Gallery’s Artist Salon is an opportunity for emerging and established artists to meet other artists, share or present current work with peers, and discuss upcoming opportunities in the arts community.

The July Artist Salon session features guest presenter Keely O’Brien, the current artist in residence at Richmond’s Branscombe House. Keely will share her experiences as an artist in residence, including details on the application process, the community engagement projects she led, and how this work aligns with her studio art practice.  The session will start with her artist talk, followed by an open question and discussion session for all the artists in the group to learn more about community-engaged art practices and artist residencies.

Free admission, all levels of visual artists welcome to attend.

    About the Presenter:
Keely O’Brien is an interdisciplinary artist and Co-Artistic Director of Vancouver-based experimental theatre company Popcorn Galaxies. Her art practice incorporates intricately handmade objects with immersive, innovative theatre creation. Devoted to a thoroughly handmade, DIY process, Keely’s work includes puppetry in miniature and enormous scales, immersive installations, imaginative ephemera, and interactive experiences. As a community engaged arts educator and Richmond’s current Artist-in-Residence, Keely creates and facilitates participatory and collaborative artwork with community members and organizations. Deeply site-responsive and engaged with questions of place, home, and belonging, Keely’s work aims to celebrate the potential for creativity and community in the place and people around her.
