Join exhibiting artist Jo‑Anne Balcaen live from Winnipeg for a candid conversation on the less visible side of artistic practice: navigating judgment, self‑doubt, work, and experience.

Through her artworks and in this artist talk, Balcaen explores why vulnerability is often hidden in the arts, how perceptions of success and failure shape our careers, and what it means to sustain a creative life over time.

Join us for a lively session that speaks to the shared challenges and quieter realities familiar to many artists.

    Session Format:

    • Live‑streamed webinar on the Zoom platform
    • Artist visual presentation followed by a Q&A with the online audience
    • Free to participate; registration is required
    • Hosted by Kathy Tycholis, RAG Education & Public Programs Coordinator

    About the Presenter:

Jo-Anne Balcaen (b. 1971, La Broquerie, Manitoba) lived and worked in Montréal for 25 years before returning to Winnipeg in 2021. Her work has been presented across Canada, the US, Scotland, and Ireland, and she has received grants from the Manitoba Arts Council, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and the Canada Council for the Arts, including the Canada Council’s International Residency at the International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York.

The Artist Salon Series features art professionals leading inspirational artist talks and professional development for visual artists each month from February to November. Programs are either live-streamed via the Zoom platform or hosted in person. Past livestreams may be viewed as videos on the RAG@Home video page.
