The enormous changes in the landscape around us have not only been reflected in art, but have been influenced by art. What has historic landscape painting got to do with environmental transformation? Join us for this series of 2 illustrated talks where we examine the collision of history, art and the land we live in.
Session 2:
In this comparative study we examine how artists assembled landscape paintings in their studios prior to the 19th century and what happened when they began painting out of doors. The immersive, ever-changing aspect of plein air painting pushed painters to approximate fleeting changes in perceptions that account more for process and time.
