Hazel Meyer, Moe Angelos, Stephen Jackman-Torkoff, and a bug-eyed puppet called Marble act out The Marble in the Basement, a site-specific performance that uses her installation of the same title as a set. The marble found posthumously in Canadian artist Joyce Wieland’s home becomes a point of departure to think about “inheritance, class, queerness…and what you pass on.”
Limited seating, tickets required. All proceeds to be provided directly to performers.
*Please note the performance on May 10 is a masked event.
About the Performers:
Hazel Meyer is an artist who works with installation, performance, and text to investigate the relationships between sexuality, feminism, and material culture. Her work recovers the queer aesthetics, politics, and bodies often effaced within histories of infrastructure, athletics, and illness.
Moe Angelos is a core member of Obie-Award winning theatre company The Builders Association, making innovative large-scale, media-integrated performance work since 2000. She’s toured internationally with the Builders including notable show, Continuous City. Moe’s is also one of The Five Lesbian Brothers, (another Obie!) a collaborative theatre company she co-founded in 1988. When not treading the boards, Moe works in United Scenic Artists 829 as a scenic painter, helping to make Hollywood and Off-Off-Off Broadway dreams come true.
Stephen Jackman-Torkoff is a wandering poet and a lover of life. Stephen has acted in several productions across Canada, most recently playing Richard II in Richard II at the Stratford Festival. After spending a lot of time working in creative institutions, Stephen is now immersing themself in creation and collaboration beyond institutional walls. They are on the journey to become a full-time wandering poet and a painter. Stephen loves you.
