This session features exhibiting artist Marlene Yuen who will demonstrate some basic printmaking techniques to create your own patterned papers for use in collage. Participants are invited to experiment with simple art materials while you chat, listen to music, and meet other artists.

All materials provided, open to ages 16+ of all artistic skill levels.

Registration is required due to limited seating.
Note – this event is oversold due to the large number of “no-shows” at free programs. Please arrive early to ensure your seat, and cancel your tickets if you are unable to attend. Thanks!

    About the Artist:
Marlene Yuen (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works on the unceded and ancestral home territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səlí̓ lwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Her current focus is on illustrations, prints, comics, zines and handmade books. Marlene’s books and zines have been retained in special collections archives nationally and internationally. In 2021, her short-run publication, Ho Sun Hing Printers, received an honourable mention from the City of Vancouver Book Awards program. It is about Canada’s first Chinese-English letterpress print shop and was a co-publication with grunt gallery. She has also created artworks about Vancouver’s historic Chinatown and Chinese Canadian workers for museums, galleries and public art programs. Her mural, The Journeys Here, will be a part of an upcoming touring exhibition, Odysseys and Migration with the Chinese Canadian Museum at Royal BC Museum in 2025.

This program is made possible with support from the 2024 City of Richmond Neighbourhood Celebration Grant Program.
