    About the Artist:

Kai Liu is a Chinese-Canadian artist working across painting, printmaking, and mixed media. His practice explores semi-abstract landscapes shaped by nature, perception, and migration, drawing on Eastern aesthetics and cross-cultural experience. His current research focuses on Chinese woodblock printmaking and its significance in contemporary art.

Liu was born and raised in China, where he studied drawing and painting before moving into animation. Relocating to Canada, he worked as a graphic designer in Ontario before settling in British Columbia to pursue the visual arts. He studied printmaking at Langara College and holds a BFA and MFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design. His work has been exhibited across Canada and featured in various publications. In addition to his studio practice, Liu teaches visual arts in both academic and community settings.

    About World Collage Day:

World Collage Day is an annual, international celebration of collage on the Second Saturday of May that was initiated by Kolaj Magazine in 2018. World Collage Day is about artists connecting across borders against a global context of entrenchment and separation. And the day is about an art medium that excels at bringing different things together to create new forms and new ways of thinking.
