As part of World Collage Day, RAG presents a Zine Collage Party for adults. It’s the perfect opportunity to get together with friends and make some art!
Hosted by guest artist Cheryl Wong, participants are invited to cut and paste while you chat, listen to music, and experiment with simple art materials. Wong will introduce a few collage and book-making techniques exploring ideas around home and place-based art-making to develop a zine or booklet.
Richmond Art Gallery staff will share their extensive collection of posters, magazines, and various paper and textile ephemera to develop your collage artworks. Work on an individual or collaborative zine with the group. The session will end with the option to have works photocopied into a zine format to share with others.
Free admission for ages 16+. All collage materials and tools provided.
Open to creatives of all skill levels.
REGISTRATION REQUIRED due to limited seating.
We anticipate this event will sell out – please arrive on time to ensure you do not lose your spot.
About the Artist:
Cheryl Wong (she/her) is an interdisciplinary creative practicing between art + design. Many of her works trace back to her cultural heritage and positionality as a bilingual speaker. She is interested in the relationship between human experience, sensory literacy, and the material world. Her continuously evolving practice explores different ways of making, storytelling, placemaking, and working with space.
Cheryl is grateful to be learning and practicing on the unceded, traditional and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations; also known as Vancouver, Canada. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Design with a Minor in Curatorial Practices from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and is currently pursuing a Master of Architecture at the University of British Columbia.
About World Collage Day:
World Collage Day is an annual, international celebration of collage on the Second Saturday of May that was initiated by Kolaj Magazine in 2018. World Collage Day is about artists connecting across borders against a global context of entrenchment and separation. And the day is about an art medium that excels at bringing different things together to create new forms and new ways of thinking.
