Kerri Flanniganʼs highly researched and deeply personal How to Build a Fire is a sprawling multi-disciplinary piece that explores connections to nature, changing climates, and wildfire, all through the artistʼs tenuous relationship with their father, a fire scientist. Bridging their visual art and experimental theatre practices, Kerri Flannigan combines illustration, animation, installation, performance, and diaristic storytelling in this timely exhibition.
About the Artist:
Currently based on Lkwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ Territories (Victoria, BC), Kerri Flannigan is an interdisciplinary artist, performer, and educator, who experiments with methods of research and storytelling. With a background in DIY experimental animation and printmaking, Flannigan is interested in creating frameworks through which the personal is critically connected to collective histories. Family mythologies, coming-of-age confessions, queer experiences of place, and wildfire have all been subjects of recent works. Flannigan is currently developing a projection-based performance, and experimenting with plant-based inks and pigments.
