    Join guest curator Rebecca Wang and Vancouver Art Gallery curator and critic Diana Freundl for the public critique of Wang’s Practicum Curatorial Project, Qiu Anxiong 邱岸雄 Howie Tsui 徐浩恩: The Roaming Peach Blossom Spring, presented as part of her MA in Critical and Curatorial Studies at UBC.

    About the Presenters:

    Diana Freundl is Interim Director of Collections and Senior Curator at the Vancouver Art Gallery. She has curated and co-curated many exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery, including major retrospectives Bharti Kher Matter (2016); Unscrolled: Reframing Tradition in Chinese Contemporary Art (2014); Pacific Crossings: Hong Kong Artists in VancouverHowie Tsui: Retainers of Anarchy (2017); 空 / Emptiness: Emily Carr and Lui Shou Kwan (2018) and Moving Still: Performative Photography in India (2019). She has been the curator of the Gallery’s public art space, Offsite, since 2013, and has presented several site-specific installations from artists including MadeIn Company, Reena Saini Kallat, and Asim Waqif among others. Prior to joining the Vancouver Art Gallery, Freundl was living and working in mainland China and Taiwan from 1998 to 2013. She studied at the Tsinghua University of Art and Design in Beijing and has an academic background in comparative religion and journalism.

    Rebecca Wang 王晨釔 is a curator and artist working between her hometown of Hangzhou, China, and the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations, also known as Vancouver, Canada. Her curatorial interests span mythology, folklore, the everyday, and the diasporic experiences. Her multidisciplinary practice navigates personal confusions about life, often stemming from the absurdity of capitalist consumer culture. Rebecca curated Conditional Belonging (2021) at Access Gallery and produced the accompanying podcast Our Work Is These Conversations. As the Curatorial Assistant at Richmond Art Gallery, she has been curating exhibitions at Richmond City Hall Galleria and The Annex Gallery since 2022. In 2025, she presented her solo exhibition Blooming While Withering at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. Rebecca holds a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and a BBA from Simon Fraser University. She is currently pursuing an MA in Critical and Curatorial Studies at University of British Columbia and serves as the Board Treasurer at Access Gallery.
