While immersed in a body of representational-based art work, the artist came upon the seemingly ordinary idea of executing a series of what appear to be straight-ahead portraits. On the surface, these conventionally executed pieces suggest traditional interaction between artist and subject. Beyond the obvious there is a more conceptual idea at play, which has more to do with the painting process than dialogue between artist and subject.
This process consists of an ambitious project of photography, for the purpose of painting a wide range of people who have come into the artist’s studio/workspace over the past three years.
The resulting exhibition is a large scale installation project consisting of paintings and drawings of the full figure, head and shoulder details and multi-faced panels in a grid/graph format.
