As part of World Collage Day, RAG presents a Collage Party for adults. It’s the perfect opportunity to get together with friends and make some art!

Using imagery inspired by the work of Canadian artist Joyce Wieland, participants are invited to cut and paste while you chat, listen to music, and experiment with simple art materials.

World Collage Day is an annual, international celebration of collage on the Second Saturday of May that was initiated by Kolaj Magazine in 2018. World Collage Day is about artists connecting across borders against a global context of entrenchment and separation. And the day is about an art medium that excels at bringing different things together to create new forms and new ways of thinking.

Inspired by the Hazel Meyer exhibition, The Marble in the Basement, the focus will be on the Canadian artist who inspired Meyer: Joyce Wieland.

Wieland (1930–1998) explored various materials and media as her art became assertively political, engaging with nationalism, feminism, and ecology.  Using similar themes as a starting point, gallery staff will share images of Wieland’s works and demonstrate how to use cut and ripped posters, photographs, magazines,  and various papers and fabrics to develop new collage artworks.  Work on solo or collaborative collage pieces, or take a break for a quick casual tour of  The Marble in the Basement.

While this event is free and all materials will be provided, we will be launching the sale of our collage “Mystery Bags”, an opportunity to purchase an original 5″ x 7″ Mail Art work plus assorted collage materials to create your own collage for only $5.00.  All proceeds go towards supporting the gallery’s public programs.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED due to limited seating.

We anticipate this event will sell out – please arrive on time to ensure you do not lose your spot.
