A Richmond Public Outreach Project
Opening Reception: Thursday 17 July 6:30-9:30 pm

archive city is a small and modest mobile company that travels to different galleries across the world in order to help you rapidly remember. We are honoured to inhabit the space of the Richmond Art Gallery where we will hold a series of our very special “speed drawing” seminars. We at archive city specialize in preserving the hard to obtain facts and will help you to remember and piece together some of the mysteries of your very own, Lulu Island. Please book your appointments ahead of time so that we may prepare for your visit. We look forward to seeing you at the opening launch of our Richmond location.

archive city: portraits of lulu island is a site-specific fictional ‘memory’ company that specializes in “speed drawings” or automatic drawings by the general public. Cindy Mochizuki will work in collaboration with other guest performers and will set up a small office in the Richmond Art Gallery inviting people to participate in these performative seminars.

Cindy Mochizuki is a visual artist working in video, installation, audio, drawing, text, and webworks. Her artistic practice also consists of curating and programming, as well as collaboration with theatre performers and choreographers. Her works examine the interplay between memory and history; and its performance in public and private spaces. She has directed two animated shorts through the National Film Board in Montreal and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. She holds a MFA from Interdisciplinary Arts at Simon Fraser University’s School For Contemporary Arts.
