Pnina Granirer has been evolving her artmaking practice for over 40 years.   Her work is reflective of her personal experiences and draws on cultural and historical iconography and imagery.   Early in her career, Granirer concentrated her practice on printmaking, creating a large inventory of works in a variety of print media.   In the mid 1980's she gravitated to painting and mixed media works, which she continues to produce.   Her work now includes installations at which she creates an interaction between the dance performers and the audience.   In Flight was printed at the Clot Bramsen & Georges print shop in Paris in 1980 with master printmaker, Yann Samson.   This piece is part of the artists West Coast Series in which she employed subject matter that is symbolic to her of the wilderness and freedom of the West Coast of British Columbia, such as native fauna and birds.   She brought feathers with her from Vancouver to Paris, which she printed directly on the lithograph stone to form the wing of the central figure, a Canadian icon, the Canada goose.

Born in Romania, Pnina Granirer moved to Canada in 1965 and settled in Vancouver, where she continues to live and work.   She has long been active in promoting the arts and particularly in supporting women's place as creators.   She studied Fine Art at the Bezalel Academy of Art in Jerusalem, Israel and has traveled extensively in Europe, Japan, and Mexico which has inspired her to create artwork in response to her experiences.   Her work has been exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions locally, nationally and internationally since 1960.   In 1998 the Richmond Art Gallery hosted a 40-year retrospective of her work, curated by Gregg Simpson, titled Celebrating a Life's Work .   Granirer has been an important supporter of the development of the Richmond Art Gallery.
