In 1994, Theme Arioso II was included in a solo exhibition of the work of Sylvia Tait titled Language Without Words at the Richmond Art Gallery.   In her paintings and prints, the artist utilizes her own visual language to express her emotions and personal responses to the media she is using. Her work is often inspired by the music she is listening to while she is working.   In this print, the artist represents what she hears in the arioso using colour, texture, line and shape.   She likens music to abstraction as both create moods and express ideas and emotions through non-verbal means.   Theme Arioso II was commissioned by the Wall Centre in Vancouver.   The artist worked with a printer to make the print and then went back and altered the screen to create another edition for her own use.

Born in Montreal, Sylvia Tait studied for four years at the Museum of Fine Arts.   She has exhibited her work in group and solo exhibitions across Canada and in Mexico, the United States, Spain and Ecuador since 1950.   Her works are held in numerous public collections including the Canada Council Art Bank, Winnipeg Art Gallery, Le Musee de l'Art Contemporaine de Montreal and the Vancouver Art Gallery, as well as in private collections in Germany, Hong Kong, USA, Dubai and Canada.
