Printmaking in the Classroom: Techniques You Can Try Without a Press

1. Glue down fairly flat materials such as string, cardboard shapes, foam shapes, plant life or textured fabric onto a piece of thick cardboard. |

2. Seal glued objects and cardboard with watered down white glue or acrylic medium. (Note – this step is only necessary for fragile or very porous items like plant material) |

3. Once this is dry, use a brayer to roll ink onto your printing plate. |

4. Lay paper on top of your plate. |

5. Rub the paper with your hands or the back of a spoon. |
![]() |
6. Carefully lift off your print. |

7. Ink up your plate again and again to make many prints. |
