Printmaking in the Classroom: Techniques You Can Try Without a Press

Collographs

1. Glue down fairly flat materials such as string, cardboard shapes, foam shapes, plant life or textured fabric onto a piece of thick cardboard.

2. Seal glued objects and cardboard with watered down white glue or acrylic medium. (Note – this step is only necessary for fragile or very porous items like plant material)

3. Once this is dry, use a brayer to roll ink onto your printing plate.

4. Lay paper on top of your plate.

5. Rub the paper with your hands or the back of a spoon.

6. Carefully lift off your print.

7. Ink up your plate again and again to make many prints.
