Artist Facilitator at Children’s Art Festival

The Richmond Children’s Art Festival is a large annual event at the Richmond Cultural Centre featuring a variety of art workshops, performances and events during the 2nd week of February.  In 2017, the Richmond Art Gallery plans to host a day of free drop-in art making sessions for all ages on Monday, February 13, 2017 as part of the Festival activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating all activities taking place in the Richmond Art Gallery on this day for hundreds of community participants. The Artist Facilitator will liaise with the RAG’s Education and Public Programs Coordinator and volunteers in order to deliver a quality program to the general public.

The Facilitator will:

  • Learn about the current Gallery exhibition and Gallery space/equipment requirements and procedures.
  • Interact and lead art activities enthusiastically with parents and children during the event.
  • Communicate confidently and clearly with parents, guests, children, staff, and volunteers.
  • In collaboration with the RAG Education and Public Programs Coordinator, develop an age-appropriate exhibition-related project and activities suitable for large audiences.
  • Oversee volunteers and participants during the event.  Liaise with Gallery staff during the event to ensure the event runs smoothly and that exhibition artwork is secure.
  • Clean up and take down equipment efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication, leadership and multi-tasking skills.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children ages 1-12 years old.
  • Have a sound knowledge of contemporary art, and be able to communicate central ideas to audiences of all ages.
  • Experience designing and teaching art projects for children ranging in ages 1 – 13.
  • Be able to work with a variety of 2D and 3D art materials.
  • Relevant secondary or post-secondary experience in visual arts and education.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a Criminal Records Check.
  • Physical Requirement: Ability to lift 15 lbs of weight when setting and cleaning up

Hours and Remuneration:
Facilitator works in the Richmond Art Gallery for the one event on February 13, 2017 from 10:00am – 5:00pm, plus a few additional hours to meet with Gallery staff to discuss activities and set-up for the day.

Rate:  Artist Honorarium of $300.00
